CAS
We Are a Proud Partner of CATSKILL ANIMAL SANCTUARY.

Catskill Animal Sanctuary (CAS), founded by Kathy Stevens, is a safe haven for abused, neglected farm animals. Since its launch in 2001, CAS has rescued, rehabilitated, nurtured and loved over 1,100 animals including horses, ponies, cows, goats, sheep, donkeys, pigs, rabbits and a variety of birds.

The broken-bodied, broken-spirited animals come to CAS and are given a second chance at life. Not only does the staff at CAS feed and fawn over these special animals, they treat each one as an individual, considering the animal’s particular history, special needs and personality. Each animal has a name at CAS, even “Van Goat,” the one-eared ewe.

The Mission of CAS is to:
  • Provide a safe haves for abused, abandoned, and neglected farm animals
  • Raise awareness about the treatment of these animals and its impact on all of us and our environment
  • Serve as an educational resource for schools, youth organizations and other community organizations by providing innovative on-site and school-based programming
Meet the 2 extraordinary animals that KEY Moving & Storage currently sponsors at CAS:

"Sassafras" is a Peking duck who is one of 99 birds seized by the SPCA from a woman selling them out of the trunk of her car at a flea market. Sassafras arrived at Catskill Animal Sanctuary with severe infections in both eyes. When the infection cleared up it became apparent that he was completely blind. Sassafras's sighted pal Succotash helped him find his way around the duck yard. Sassafras now lives with a flock of special needs ducks. He enjoys swimming in his pool and hanging out with all his new friends.

"Sumo" is an enormous red rooster. He is an older fellow who was found loose in New York city. Most of the time he enjoys hanging out in his bachelor pad, his own private house and yard in the rooster condo. Due to his age, Sumo doesn't handle extreme temperatures very well. When it's too hot or too cold he joins Nutmeg, a senior hen, in the kitchen. They oversee feeding time as well as the staff lunch break and make sure any crumbs are quickly cleaned up.

Meet Some of the Other Residents at CAS:

"Rambo", saved from a horrific situation in CAS’ first cruelty case. Originally violent and angry, Rambo is now healer, teacher, barn guard – and the subject of four chapters in Kathy’s heart-warming book, Where the Blind Horse Sings.

12 year old "Babe" tips the scale at a whopping 2,400 pounds! An Angus/Holstein cross, this boy was headed to slaughter, but his "mom" discovered Catskill Animal Sanctuary just in time to save his life. Despite his size, Babe is as gentle as they come, is halter trained and extremely affectionate.

"Noodles" is one of fourteen goats who arrived summer 2005 from an upstate NY starvation case.
